The award is presented after candidates are selected
by an ALCC award committee and nominees are reviewed by the ALCC's
executive committee. The guidelines are:
• The award will be for outstanding
contribution to all or any one of the fields encompassing lighthouse
preservation, education, history, publication and/or other forms of
documentation.
• The Executive and Award committees will
determine who is eligible to receive the award. A unanimous general
consensus need not be reach to determine an award recipient but a
majority vote of members from the two committees will be required.
• There will be no set schedule for presenting
an award. At most, an award would be presented to a worthy candidate
once per year, although multiple awards including intervening years may
be presented at the ALCC triennial meeting.
• The award is not meant to be solely for
lifetime achievement.
• Groups will be considered eligible to
receive the award.
• No person or group can be the recipient of
more than one Holland Award.
• Presentation of the Award will be by the
ALCC president, or a person appointed by the president.
• Presentation of the award will be in a
public forum, preferably at a maritime preservation or history
conference of which the ALCC is a sponsor or at least heavily
represented by the ALCC membership.
• The chair of the award committee will be
responsible for obtaining the award and getting it to the ALCC president
for presentation
•
The design of the award can be altered by agreement between the
Executive and Award Committees.
