The American Lighthouse Coordinating Committee is a preservation practitioners' organization, and does not answer general lighthouse history, heritage and tourism questions. Those matters are handled admirably by other lighthouse organizations and sites, and the ALCC purposely avoids duplicating their efforts.

A more recent national organization and offshoot of the popular Lighthouse Depot retail enterprise in Wells, Maine, the ALF has been very active in lighthouse preservation projects. Its efforts are centered now in New England, and it is headquartered with the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland. The organization, which also publishes the Lighthouse Digest, was founded by Tim Harrison, and the executive director is Bob Trapani. The ALF has sponsored international lighthouse conferences.
   
   
   
    The Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association.

The oldest lighthouse preservation society and the largest regional association, GLLKA is based in Mackinaw City, Michigan, on the Straits of Mackinac. It covers both the American and Canadian shores of the international fresh water system. Headed by President Richard Moehl and Executive Director Terry Pepper, GLLKA publishes “The Beacon,” a periodical of news and features. It also has spearheaded the restoration of St. Helena Lighthouse on an island in the straits, and the Cheboygan River Front Range light and is involved in partnerships with other lighthouse groups around the Great Lakes.

The National Park Service maintains several lighthouse-related databases, as well as developing preservation guidelines and advice (see the Preservation page on this site). The Maritime Heritage Program includes the agency's survey of historic light stations.
   
   
   
    The United States Coast Guard

The national agency entrusted with American aids to navigation, the Coast Guard has been a valued partner in many lighthouse restoration and preservation efforts.
   
   
   
    The United States Lighthouse Society

Among the oldest of the lighthouse heritage and preservation groups, the United States Lighthouse Society was founded in in San Francisco , California, and is now headquartered at the Point No Point Lighthouse in the State of Washington. It also has chapters on the East Coast. Founded by lighthouse authority Wayne Wheeler, the organization is now headed by Jeff Gales. The society publishes a high-quality quarterly journal of lighthouse history and heritage, “The Keeper's Log,” berths a lightship in the Bay Area and conducts regional and international lighthouse tours. 
   
   
   
    The World Lighthouse Society

The World Lighthouse Society is headquartered in Europe and is expanding its membership and representation throughout the world. It includes several working task groups in such areas as Optics, Lightships and Philately.
